Sam Smith tells of heartbreak for young war victims

By Julia Hunt

Musician Sam Smith said he was heartbroken to see children whose lives had been torn apart by conflict, as he urged people to support War Child UK's latest campaign.

The singer-songwriter, who has a new role as a global ambassador for War Child UK, is backing a new report and campaign from the charity which aims to raise awareness and funds for children affected by war.

Smith, who visited programmes in Iraq and Syria, said: "During my visits to War Child's programmes this year, it was heartbreaking to see the number of children who have had their lives ripped apart by war, knowing that what I was seeing was just the tip of the iceberg."
