Sherlock actress 'sent naked tape'
Lara Pulver who played the racy dominatrix Irene Adler in hit show Sherlock won the role when she sent in an audition tape in which she appeared to be naked.
The actress was one of the stars of the second series which was notable for one scene in the show, A Scandal In Belgravia, with Lara entirely naked except for her high heel shoes.
The episode, which was screened on New Year's Day, drew around 100 complaints from viewers offended by the scenes, but BBC figures reveal it was one of its most popular shows online in the first four months of the year.
The show's co-creator Steven Moffat said one of the things in Lara's favour was the sense of "fun" she brought to the role.
His co-creator Mark Gatiss added: "She also made everyone sit up because she sent a tape from LA and she didn't have any clothes on."
Steven added: "She wasn't really naked, I'm sure she was wearing a towel".
The show, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Arthur Conan Doyle's master sleuth and Office star Martin Freeman as his sidekick Dr Watson, will start filming a third series next year.
Its writers teased the audience at the Edinburgh International Television Festival with three words which they said would provide clues to the next series - 'Rat', 'Bow' and 'Wedding' which could refer to some of the original Conan Doyle stories which inspired the series.
