Simon Cowell rules out Cheryl's X Factor return

Simon Cowell's three-year-old son Eric has inherited his dad's musical skills, and can remember all the lyrics to a song after hearing it just one time.

Simon Cowell has ruled out Cheryl's return to The X Factor, but hopes to work with the new mum on another project in the future.

The 33-year-old singer welcomed her first child, a son, with her One Direction boyfriend Liam Payne last month (Mar17). Her new family situation means she won't be rejoining the panel of the ITV show as a judge for this year's contest, but music mogul Simon is keen to collaborate with the former Girls Aloud star, who was last seen as an X Factor judge on the 2015 series, on a small screen project in the future.

"I have one or two ideas in mind," he told The Sun. "Once she’s settled she’s going to want to be working again and I enjoy working with Cheryl - she is good.

"We still have a really good relationship and I think at some point we’ll probably end up working together again soon. There’s always room to come up with new ideas for shows but you’ve got to look at the whole landscape.

"It’s a crowded market but there’s always room for something new if it’s a good idea."

Ruling out Cheryl being a judge on either The X Factor or Britain's Got Talent, Simon's other hit ITV talent show, the boss continued: "I don’t think for the moment we’d want to make any changes. It worked on X Factor last year and the Britain’s Got Talent panel works really well."

Simon's remark means that Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams can rest assured that their BGT judging jobs are safe, while Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh will be back on The X Factor panel later this year.

Notoriously harsh judge Simon was speaking to press ahead of the return of BGT this Saturday (15Apr17), and also opened up about his three-year-old son Eric, who appears to have inherited his dad's musical skills.

"I watch him watching the show and the things he likes normally are the things I like," Simon added. "They take on your mannerisms and everything else. He is absolutely incredible and so funny.

"He can listen to a record once or twice and he remembers all the words. He knows who the artist is. It’s really astonishing!"

Eric also seems to have inherited his father's love of the ladies, with Simon admitting: "I asked him the other day how many girlfriends he’s got and I think he’s got five, so he’s doing OK!"
