Snore point for Eamonn as Ruth lifts lid on his habit of nodding off in public

By Ivan Little

Eamonn Holmes' wife has revealed that the newsman sometimes turns into a snooze-man in public.

Ruth Langsford told millions of TV viewers that her Belfast-born husband has a habit of falling asleep at the theatre.

And she said that the 58-year-old father of four has even nodded off during loud rock musicals.

Speaking on ITV's Loose Women, Ruth said that Eamonn fell asleep at the theatre no matter what was on.

But she added that she tried to be understanding in his time presenting early morning news programmes.

But she said that Eamonn had even slept through part of the Queen musical We Will Rock You.

"It's the loudest musical I have ever seen in my life," she said.

Ruth added that when the audience were all on their feet singing the song We Will Rock You she looked down to find that Eamonn was still in his seat with his head bowed and fast asleep.

Ruth said she sometimes had to poke him in the ribs with her elbow, especially when he started to snore during poignant scenes in plays.

She didn't name any of the plays which put Eamonn over.

Ruth's disclosures about Eamonn came as she and her colleagues discussed how Tory MP Sir Desmond Swayne was caught on camera as he slumbered during a debate in the House of Commons earlier this week.

Ruth said she sometimes dozed off herself at functions and when she'd watched kids movies in the cinema with her son Jack.

At one point Ruth's Loose Women colleague, Birds of a Feather actress Linda Robson said that she and another host Nadia Sawalha both fell asleep watching the premiere of Holywood actor Jamie Dornan's film Fifty Shades of Grey.

"We were supposed to be all hotted up and we were both asleep," said Nadia.

In response to Ruth's caution about women falling asleep during moments of passion Linda said: "I've done that and all."

Yesterday Eamonn posted a video clip of himself and Ruth in bed where they were filming a programme on sleep for Channel 5.

Ruth claimed on camera that Eamonn had actually fallen asleep but he said she was 'jibbering on'.

Last year, viewers of ITV's This Morning said they thought that Eamonn was briefly asleep during a phone-in but closer inspection of the footage clearly showed he was simply looking down and he branded the claims 'fake news'.

The pair were taking calls from viewers who said they didn't have any body confidence and wanted to tackle the issue.
