Thomas: We need to move on
Joe Thomas is lining up more TV work so he can move on from The Inbetweeners.
While The Inbetweeners Movie has broken records and remains on top of the UK box office, the 27-year-old - better known as ladies' man Simon in the hit E4 series - and his castmate Simon Bird have written a new pilot Chickens, with Jonny Sweet.
"I just think it's necessary to do so, because we're all getting older. We are already quite old. So it's just important for our careers to have something else to do when we can't play teenagers any more," he said.
Joe, who also appears in new Channel 4 comedy Fresh Meat, said he has been inspired to write more because of The Inbetweeners.
"The Inbetweeners have been a massive inspiration and it's been the best years of my life. Naturally, having seen Iain Morris and Damon Beesley writing so successfully for The Inbetweeners, we want to have a go at that ourselves," he continued.
Set in the First World War, Chickens sees the trio play despised misfits left in a sleepy English village after choosing not to fight in the war.
They hope the pilot will be picked up for a full series.
"We have got a few ideas. We feel like it is a rich setting and the advantage of writing about the past, we know there is stuff we can draw on," Joe added.
:: Chickens airs at 10.30pm on Friday on Channel 4.
