Tracey Ullman's mother dies in fire
Comedian Tracey Ullman has been left "deeply saddened" after her elderly mother died in a fire.
Doreen Skinner, 85, was killed by a blaze at her retirement flat caused by the "careless disposal" of a cigarette, according to an investigation by firefighters.
Ullman, 55, became a huge star in the UK and the United States in the 1980s. Earlier this month it was revealed she is to make a new six-part BBC One series, The Tracey Ullman Show, almost 30 years after she moved across the Atlantic.
A spokesman for the comic today said: "Tracey and her family are deeply saddened by the death of her mother, Doreen.
"The family would like to thank everyone for the kind messages they have received and ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult time."
The incident happened on Monday night at the flat in Kiln Court, in the Holtspur area of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said that elderly Mrs Skinner was found dead in her bedroom after firefighters were called at 11.21pm.
