Shane Warne has said he and fiancee Elizabeth Hurley are "not throwing in the towel" on their relationship - but admitted they are "sorting through" private issues.
His comment comes after it was reported that the three-year romance between the 44-year-old former cricketer and the actress, who is 48, was over.
Liz seemed to suggest there had been some upset as she told online followers that events in her life were "too raw and personal" to share.
The long-distance lovers have been known for sending each other affectionate messages on Twitter since they were first spotted kissing in December 2010, but when they abruptly ended their communications, it was seen as a sign they had called an end to their two-year engagement.
The pair have been engaged for two years.
Australian Shane broke his silence to post a message on Twitter which said: "Some of the reports re EH & me are absolute rubbish. Yes we're sorting through some (private) issues. But we're not throwing the towel in yet."
But Liz - who has been photographed without her engagement ring - poured fuel on the speculation when she tweeted: "Apologies to loyal followers for Twitter silence on recent events. Too raw & personal to share right now."
Representatives for the pair have not commented but mother-of-one Liz, who was previously married to businessman Arun Nayar, recently suggested that all might not be well with her love life, by posting a message online which read: "The more I know of man, the more I love my dog."
