Will.i.am has described his recent collaboration with Britney Spears as “mean.”
The American star star gushed about the tune, emphasising the song’s place in today’s music scene. The pair teamed up earlier this week, with Britney already telling fans they will be blown away when they hear the track.
"It's mean, but a nice mean. It's hard, but melodic. It's aggressive, but smooth. It's the next level, but today. She's a sweetheart,” Will.i.am told Extra.
The 35-year-old star came to prominence in the 90s as a member of the Black Eyed Peas. As a music producer, he has worked with other artists including Michael Jackson, U2, Usher and Cheryl Cole. He found the collaboration with Britney particularly easy because there was no pressure to make a hit selling single.
“We made music and that’s what I like. When you’re doing things because you just love it, without the, ya know, ‘we need a single’ pressure, when you’re just in there having fun, that’s what I love,” he said.
Britney is currently putting the finishing touches to her upcoming album Femme Fatale, which is due out next month. She has kept details about the record secret as she wants her fans to be surprised, but it is known there are several high profile collaborations on it, including the hotly anticipated track with Will.i.am.
Earlier this week, 29-year-old Britney discussed the team-up on her Twitter page.
“In the studio with @iamwill...you guys are gonna love this one,” she wrote.
The first single from Femme Fatale is Hold It Against Me, and the promo for the tune is due to premiere on February 17.
