William chats with rock royalty

The Duke of Cambridge has met Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift as real and rock royalty joined forces in the name of charity.

The trio were the main attractions at the Winter Whites Gala in Kensington Palace tonight to support homeless charity Centrepoint.

William met rock star Jon and American pop star Swift in the Kings Gallery at the State Apartments before hitting the red carpet.

While they were the most sought after guests, others included Benedict Cumberbatch, James Blunt and Tinie Tempah.

Taylor dazzled the red carpet, which was actually blue in line with the night's winter theme, in a stunning white dress while William stopped to acknowledge one of the men who was helping to create snow as guests entered for dinner.

Gerry Glynn, who was blowing a soap and water mix over guests to mimic snow, said he was shocked the prince stopped to speak to him.

"He was very impressed with the snow," Mr Glynn laughed. "I was surprised when he actually came up to ask me about it."

Gala convenor Danielle Alexandra said the event took six months to create. "But really it all comes down to the prince, who is a remarkable man," she said. "He wanted to do whatever he could to help the cause."

William, who has been a patron of the Centrepoint charity since September 2005, will deliver a speech and present the Centrepoint Great Britain Youth Inspiration Award to Bon Jovi for his humanitarian work.

Jon will also perform at the gala. His Soul Foundation was founded in the United States in 2006 and aims to break the cycle of people falling into poverty and homelessness by helping them gain access to food and affordable housing along with job training programmes.

Centrepoint works with hundreds of young people to help them tackle issues that can lead to homelessness.
