Pharrell Williams is set to join Rihanna as a mentor on the US version of her fashion show, Styled To Rock.

The Grammy-winning N.E.R.D. frontman and fashion trailblazer has signed on as one of the mentors for the American competition series, which sees Rihanna as executive producer.

Twelve up-and-coming designers will have to pass challenges as they battle it out for the opportunity to create fashion pieces for celebrities in the ten-episode series, which is scheduled to premiere on US screens later this year.

Salaam Coleman Smith, president of Style Media, said: "We are delighted to have Pharrell, who is a driving force in both the music industry and fashion world, serve as a mentor on Styled To Rock. Pharrell's unique aesthetic and commitment to individuality combined with Rihanna's vision for this series will enable our aspiring designers to hone their craft and learn from the very people who set the trends."

The UK version saw Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts, British fashion designer Henry Holland and Rihanna's own personal stylist Lysa Cooper as mentors to find the next big thing in fashion, but has not been recommissioned for a second series by Sky Living.

It featured guests including Kanye West, Cheryl Cole and Katy Perry and saw designers competing to design an outfit for Rihanna.

Pharrell - who is also half of the production duo The Neptunes - is well-known for his fashion ventures, which include his clothing ranges Billionaire Boys Club, Billionaire Girls Club, Bee Line, ICECREAM, jewellery and accessory designs for Louis Vuitton, furniture and product design, and collaborations with Moncler, and the artist Takashi Murakami.
