X Factor field reduced to 32 acts
The X Factor competition is hotting up with the acts culled to just 32 and their mentors for the next round revealed.
Eight were chosen from each of the four categories - the boys, the girls, the groups and the over-28s - from thousands of hopefuls.
They will compete next week in the Judges' Houses round, so-called because they will perform at venues chosen by judges Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell.
Dannii has chosen Melbourne, Australia, for her acts - the boys - to perform, while Cheryl elected a country house in England as the girls' venue. Louis is mentoring the over-28s acts and Simon the groups.
The 32 will be whittled down to just 12 for the live shows.
When Simon found out his category he said: "I can't believe it. Two words - stitch up." Groups including Husstle, Twem, Diva Fever and Princes and Rogues were in his category. There will also be two new bands, formed from boys and girls who didn't make it trhough as solo acts.
During the final part of the Bootcamp stage, Louis, Simon and guest judge Nicole Scherzinger decided to alter the age limit for the over 25s category and boosted it to 28. Louis was not pleased at the news he was mentoring the newly created category. His acts include shop assistant Mary Byrne and American rocker Storm Lee.
Dannii, who has only just started back on the show after giving birth to her first child Ethan, said: "I was gutted to miss the auditions because I just felt out of the loop." The acts she will mentor include Paije Richardson, Italian Nicolo Festa, Aidan Grimshaw and Marlon McKenzie.
