Corrie actress Claire King to star alongside May McFettridge in Belfast panto

Coronation Street actress Claire King will star in this year's panto production of Peter Pan at the Grand Opera House in Belfast, it has been announced.

The soap star will appear alongside panto legend May McFettridge as The Magical Mermaid, the underwater enchantress who is on hand to help the high-flying hero Peter Pan outwit the villainous Captain Hook.

Ian Wilson, chief executive of the Grand Opera House, said: “I am delighted to welcome Claire to the cast of Peter Pan. It’s been a decade since Peter Pan was last staged at the Theatre and with an unprecedented number of 38,000 seats - with half of the available tickets already sold - the show is on course to smash all box office records.

“The Theatre opened on 23 December 1895 with a panto and since then generations of families have enjoyed the annual Christmas extravaganza at the Grand Opera House, the home of pantomime in Northern Ireland."

Claire is currently appearing as Erica Holroyd in Coronation Street, having joined the long-running soap in 2014.

She previously starred in Yorkshire-based soap Emmerdale as bad girl Kim Tate from 1989-1999.

The actress has also recently been a guest panelist on lunchtime chat show Loose Women, and previously appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing.

The cast of Peter Pan will be led by May McFettridge as Mrs Smee in her 28th consecutive Grand Opera House pantomime.

Paddy Jenkins will also be appearing as Starkey, with Britain’s Got Talent finalist Paul Burling as Smee.
