The much-loved 'The McCooeys' radio series will make a special return tomorrow after being absent from the airwaves for 66 years.
Centre Stage Theatre Company, in association with The Portico of Ards, Portaferry and funded by Community Foundation Northern Ireland, is preparing the live stream event.
The McCooeys was the work of renowned Portaferry playwright and actor Joseph Tomelty. Thousands of people across the country tuned in to BBC Northern Ireland Home Service every Saturday night between 1949 and 1955 to hear of the ups and downs of characters such as Granda, Maggie, Sammy and Aunt Sarah amongst others.
The cast for the 2021 version includes Hannah Carnegie as Sally McCooey. Hannah's late mother Roma Tomelty had been planning to transform her dad Joseph's play into a stage show with her Centre Stage company in June last year.
Maria Connolly will also portray Maggie McCooey and Dan Gordon will take on the role of Granda McCooey.
The 'radio play-style' performances will be streamed online from the Portico stage. Tickets are £10 from www.porticoards.com and the live recording will be available online this Saturday from 3pm until Saturday, March 27.
