A MAGICAL new play takes to the stage to at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast for young minds this autumn.
‘Shh! We Have A Plan’ has been adapted from popular children’s book with the same name by Chris Haughton, by award-winning children’s theatre company, Cahoots NI.
The stage production directed and created by Paul McEneaney and music score by Garth McConaghie is full of laughs, magic, puppetry, and entertaining moments that will capture the imagination of the younger audience.
Three madcap characters set off on a magical journey on a mission to capture a beautiful bird they spotted on the island. The plan seems simple, but not all is as it seems.
Paul McEneaney, Director of Cahoots NI said: “We are thrilled to bring our new adventure to young audiences and their families this autumn. Cahoots NI has been working with acclaimed children’s author, Chris Haughton, for over a year on this project.
"We have created a magical theatre experience that tells the story of an elusive and magical bird. The story looks at how kindness may achieve more than greed and selfishness; and, as the play goes on, the characters learn to love and look after nature.”
Chris Haughton, the author of ‘Shh! We Have A Plan’, said: “I am extremely excited to be working on this project with Cahoots NI.
"I had seen their production of ‘Egg’ and absolutely loved it. I think their approach on that show fits incredibly well with my book and so was very excited to be working together with them.
"We are also working with one of my favourite animation studios, Animade, to produce some really beautifully animated sequences and special effects. I can’t wait to see it all together! I am very excited about this project.”
Gilly Campbell, Arts Development Officer for Drama and Dance at the Arts Council NI, said: “The award-winning Cahoots NI continues to bring world-class children’s theatre to young people across the region with ‘Shh! We Have a Plan’.
"Chris Haughton is recognised as one of the most exciting new voices in children’s literature and Cahoots will do a wonderful job in bringing this story to life on stage.
"From the very young to the very old, this is a production that will enchant and delight everyone who experiences it and I would encourage anyone who gets the chance, to go along and see this incredible production this autumn.”
