West Side Story promises to steal the hearts of generations

Following their recent critically-acclaimed productions of Fiddler on the Roof and Calamity Jane, the New Lyric Operatic Company continue their 65th anniversary celebrations with West Side Story.

Under the new artistic direction of Kieran Griffiths, the show will be performed in the Grand Opera House from Tuesday 18 – Saturday 22 November 2014.

This story, which tells the infamous and powerful tale of love, prejudice and delinquency, follows star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria who, despite hailing from two opposing sides of a vicious turf war fuelled by racial hatred, seek to escape the mindless violence and contempt of the Upper West Side. But as the romance begins to unfold, they are forced to make decisions that will change their lives, and the lives of everyone they hold dear, forever.

Featuring a host of dynamic characters, commonly heralded as some of the most iconic in musical theatre history, West Side Story promises high-energy choreography by New Lyric’s Sarah Collyer set to an unforgettable score by Broadway heavyweights, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim expertly performed by the New Lyric Orchestra.

The company have recently welcomed Kieran Griffiths as the new Artistic Director for this production alongside long standing Musical Director Wilson Shields who has worked with the New Lyric for over ten years and has been instrumental to the huge success the company has celebrated to date. Delighted to be working with New Lyric Operatic, Kieran has openly praised the creative team describing them as “fearless and passionate with an enviable community focus”.

Tickets are priced from £14 and can be purchased online at www.goh.co.uk, via telephone on 9024 1919 or in person at the theatre Box Office located in the foyer.
