Louise Morrissey has been part and parcel of the Irish country music scene for longer than she might be prepared to remember.

The popular Tipperary singer started her career with her two brothers, Norman and Billy, as a member of ballad group The Morrisseys before going on to front her own band.

In more recent years, Louise has emerged as a hugely influential solo artiste, her fine singing voice and warm personality winning her many followers.

Other artistes have come and gone, but Louise is still truckin', as they say.

She has hit the jackpot with numerous songs too, including The Night Daniel O'Donnell Came To Town, Tipperary On My Mind, Slievenamon, and The Hills of Killenaule.

Her music has its own distinctive feel and that's why I was delighted to note that she is to appear at a concert in the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan on August 29 ,at which I will be acting as compere, as well as doing a wee turn.

Louise is one of several acts who will be appearing at what promises to be a spectacular show. Robert Mizzell and his band will be there - and they will certainly require no introduction.

Patrick Feeney, who shares Three Amigos fame along with Robert, is on the bill.

So too is my good friend Roly Daniels, along with Frank McCaffrey.

Incidentally, Frank is one of those ageless performers who just keeps on doing the business.

I well remember him fronting The Country Folk band in the old days and I must say I am looking forward to meeting up with him again.

He will certainly get a warm welcome at the Hillgrove Hotel as this will be a rare appearance by him in this area.

Incidentally, I would just like to wish Shawn Cuddy's daughter, Aimee, the very best of luck in the Mary from Dungloe contest next week.

I understand she is a talented girl and her dad, of course, is popular in country music circles. A native of Laois, he has been living in Lifford for several years.

Incidentally, Shawn's wife, Roberta, and my wife, Joan, are full cousins.
