Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has brought an early Christmas treat to the people of Bangor by playing an impromptu set in Ward Park.

The gig has taken place months ahead of a planned mega show at the same location in May next year.

Gary Lightbody, armed only with an acoustic guitar, entertained onlookers with renditions of the classics, including Chasing Cars.

Snow Patrol are set to return to Ward Park in Bangor for next summers gig to mark 25 years since the band's formation.

Snow Patrol will be supported by a host of local talent including Foy Vance, Ash, SOAK, Jealous of the Birds, Brand New Friend, Kit Philippa and ROE.

“Northern Irish music at the moment is in its rudest health. It’s very exciting to be able to celebrate that at a time that when it’s a good time to celebrate all the good things about Northern Ireland,” Gary Lightbody said.

"Northern Irish acts all the way."
