Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards 2014

One of the biggest sporting events locally, the Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards honours Northern Ireland’s top sporting achievers in both the professional and amateur arena. The gala awards ceremony is held annually in January and attracts many of our world class and most successful sporting faces past and present.

The Awards programme asks members of the public, sports fans, clubs, schools, regional councils, governing bodies and sporting organisations to put forward a wide range of nominations. These are considered carefully by the judging panel, chaired by Belfast Telegraph sports editor, Steven Beacom. Judges include representatives from the NI Sports Forum and Sport Northern Ireland and the panel always features a former sporting star.

As well as the coveted Sports Star of the Year title, the 12 category awards include Manager/Coach of the Year, Young Team and Young player of the Year as well the Hall of Fame trophy, Local Heroes and Sportsperson with a Disability. Others include Special Recognition Award, George Best Breakthrough, Team of the Year, the WJ ‘Paddy’ Patterson Award for Services to Sport and the Malcolm Brodie Player of the Year trophy.

The awards attract title, support and category sponsorship from a wide range of companies and we team up with Sport Northern Ireland which is a ‘sporting partner’ for the Awards programme.  The 2014 Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards will be launched during September with nominations sought by early December and judging taking place mid-December 2014.
