Honour of Lifetime Achievement Award goes to worthy tech pioneer Patrick McAliskey
A tech sector pioneer, now building a brewing business, Patrick McAliskey was the highly popular recipient of this year's Lifetime Achievement Award.
The co-founder of Novosco, which was established in 1994, Patrick invested some of his proceeds from the £70m sale of the company in a new brewery formed in his home town of Lurgan.
Spadetown Brewery Company, the first business of its kind in the town since the 1830s, already has three beers on the shelves.
Novosco, which provided cloud-based services and support and based in the Catalyst-managed campus in Belfast, was sold to Cancom Group in a transaction that valued the company at £70m.
Cancom, with around 350 staff in Belfast, was later sold to Spanish multi-national Telefonica Tech in a deal worth £339m.
Patrick said he was "absolutely delighted" with his award, adding that he had not been to a business award event for over three years. “This a fantastic night here tonight. To get honoured in the way I have been is just amazing.”

He added, “It is an old cliché but I would not have been getting this award if it had not been for all the people in Novosco.
“I am thrilled to be acknowledged for all the hard work in the tech sector in Northern Ireland. It has been a brilliant night and all the best to all the other award winners.
“The business started in 1994 so it was back in the day when there was not much of a tech sector in Northern Ireland.
“Creating employment for 300 people in Belfast is an amazing achievement for anybody and the team of people who built Novosco were delighted to take the company that far.
“And it is now owned by Telefonica, a global company, a global brand recognised everywhere and that company is carrying on growing.”
On the pivot to the brewing business, in partnership with Vernon Fox, and Martin Dummigan, Patrick said, “Whenever you get into one of those positions you have to be selective about your time but I am delighted to get involved in something, running a brewery, creating new beers and making them in my home town of Lurgan.
“What better thing could you be doing.”
