Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards: Stars will be out in force
The Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards will be a celebration of what has been a truly outstanding year for Northern Ireland competitors.
From 15-times champion jockey Tony McCoy’s first Grand National victory, to golfer Graeme McDowell’s incredible year which included a US Open triumph and Ryder Cup glory, 2010 has been a momentous 12 months for Ulster sport.
And that’s just for starters. Add in one of our best ever medal hauls at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi — three golds, three silver and four bronze — plus the superb achievements of golfer Rory McIlroy, cyclist Wendy Houvenaghel and athlete Jason Smyth, to name but a few, plus our teams and coaches, and it is clear that 2010 has been a very special year.
One of our sporting stars, Kilkeel golfer Danielle McVeigh, yesterday joined forces with Linwoods and Sport NI to remind readers that the Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards will be staged at the Ramada Hotel, Belfast on Monday, January 10.
Danielle, who is supported by the Sports Institute Northern Ireland, is a member of Royal County Down Ladies Golf Club and is currently in her final year at Maynooth College studying Business and Management.
After graduation the 23-year-old hopes to turn professional and gain both American and European tour cards.
The Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards every year attract some of Northern Ireland’s most famous sporting faces. To purchase tickets, priced at £60 plus VAT, contact Sarah or Rosemary at JPR, telephone 028 9076 0066 or email |email@example.com
Linwoods sales and marketing manager Joanne Hayden said: “We’re delighted to sponsor the Sports Awards and believe it will be a healthy and dynamic new partnership.”
Chief executive of Sport Northern Ireland Eamonn McCartan said: “Sport Northern Ireland is pleased to once again be involved in the Sports Awards, reflecting our support for this celebrated event and the great sporting achievements they recognise.”
In addition to co-sponsors Linwoods and Sport Northern Ireland, other companies and organisations backing the Awards this year include Disability Needs and Northern Ireland Sports Forum.
The competition for the 2010 Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards is possibly the fiercest ever. Let the best candidates win.
