A BELFAST florist has come up smelling of roses in a top competition.

A BELFAST florist has come up smelling of roses in a top competition.

Allison Bates, owner of Valentines Florist on the Belmont Road, was crowned Irish Interflora Florist of the Year at a lavish awards ceremony in Dublin.

She now has the chance to compete for the prestigious Interflora Florist of the Year award in July.

"I am over the moon to win this award. I have received loads of congratulation cards from customers and my husband and parents are very proud."

Predicting a record-breaking year for the red rose brigade, Allison said her shop has never been busier with a flurry of last-minute orders - mostly from men!She said: "I believe that it will be a record year because Valentine's Day falls on a week day - and people like nothing more than getting a big surprise at work."
