A delegate from the Baha'i faith community in Foyle has returned from a UK-wide conference.

Dr Iain Palin represented local Baha'i members at the National Convention held in Wales.

A spokesman for the local congregation: "At a meeting, Dr Palin spoke about the event, which brought together members of the faith from all over Britain and Northern Ireland to discuss their work and set out aims for the year ahead.

"As the Baha'i religion has no clergy, consultative gatherings like this have an important part to play in its activities."

Dr Palin reported on some of the main themes discussed and the reports received of what was going on, not just nationally but in other parts of the world as well.

The spokesman said: "There was also a special showing of a new DVD about the Gardens of the World Centre of the Faith in Israel.

"These are rightly famous for their beauty and their air of tranquility and spiritual peace, and they are open to people of all beliefs.

"Although some local Bahai's have been to the Holy Land, for others this was an insight into a remarkable area."
