Bangor head to face sex charges

A DEPUTY head of one of Northern Ireland's top grammar schools will

Dr Lindsay Brown, vice- principal of Bangor Grammar, will face five charges of indecent assault when he appears at Coleraine Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

The charges are understood to relate to alleged incidents at a school in Castlerock between 1986 and 1991.

Mr Brown has been on leave of absence from the school since revelations that police were investigating one alleged incident.

A letter, from the school's Board of Governors, was sent out to parents last month.

It said that, to protect the interests of the school, 'the teacher concerned has requested and been granted a leave of absence pending a full investigation by the appropriate authorities.'The Bangor man has worked at the top grammar school since 1968. He is heavily involved in the school's Scripture Union and the Christian club, Crusaders, and had special responsibility for first form boys.

An RUC spokesman today confirmed that a 56-year-old man is expected to appear at Coleraine Magistrate's Court on Wednesday charged with five counts of indecent assault.
