The work of that globetrotting Ulster artistic aristo Hector McDonnell will be much in evidence over the next few months.

An exhibition of some of his latest oil paintings opens at the Bell Gallery in Belfast next Wednesday.

And on friday a full scale retrospective show celebrating his 35 years as a professional artist is being launched at the Ulster Museum, where it will run until March.

McDonnell, younger son of the late Earl and Countess of Antrim, grew up on the family estate in Glenarm and was educated at Eton and Oxford. He travels and paints all over the world, but his Bell Gallery show is very much of local provenance. It includes scenes of market, shop and cafe life in Belfast as well as a couple of oils from the whiskey capital of Bushmills. They will be on view until December 19.
