WEATHER experts today warned Ulster to brace itself for a bout of severe weather, with gales hitting 60mph.

WEATHER experts today warned Ulster to brace itself for a bout of severe weather, with gales hitting 60mph.

A spokesman for PA weather centre said winds and heavy rain are set to wreak havoc over the next 24 hours.

Warning of a grim outlook, he said: "It is going to be pretty miserable today, especially on the north coast, with very heavy showers and winds gusting over 60mph.

"The winds will die out later tonight, but they will pick up again tomorrow and there will be more heavy rain."

Strong winds caused chaos in country areas earlier today and a major operation swung into action in Lisburn to remove a tree from BelsizeRoad.

The road has now been re-opened.

Ferry travellers were today also urged to contact their local operator to check if any services have been cancelled.
