The British Red Cross has said a big 'thank you' to the people of Londonderry for their support during the recent Red Cross Week.

The final total for the city's fundraising activities is still to be calculated, but a massive £6,000 was raised at the recent Jive Aces gig featuring Claire Sproule at Harry's Bar, and a further £3,000 from the recent schools' concert in the Millennium Forum.

Hundreds of pounds were also raised at collections in Long's supermarkets in Derry.

Michael Taylor, Red Cross fundraiser, said: "Thanks to the generosity of the public in the North West, we raised a lot of money during Red Cross Week this year. I would like to express my appreciation to those who kindly donated and the volunteers that supported us during the week."
