The 30 year-old singer-songwriter lives in Belfast and has just launched his EP To Be Good Enough, which also features his new single of the same name.

My best moment

It was when Paolo Nutini’s second album came out. I was listening to it and all of a sudden I got a call from his manager asking me if I would like to be his support act for a few dates around Ireland. It was a good few years ago, but it was a real compliment.

My best way to relax

It has to be when I get out with the lads to play golf, as I love sports. I also love picking up the guitar and writing a song — that will just take me away in everything and I can lose myself in it.

My best job

I’ve done a lot of jobs over the years from running a bar in Greece to being a lifeguard. My best job was acting as Captain Morgan — the mascot of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum — which I did for quite a while. I would just go into nightclubs and party all night and I was paid for it.

My best song

It’s a toss up between Dirty Diana and Man In The Mirror, both by Michael Jackson. It was his album, Bad, that was the first time that I really listened to and appreciated music. Those two songs have stuck with me ever since.

My best bit of advice

To take nothing for granted because every day could be your last. It was given to me by one of my best friend’s mums. It’s been a good piece of advice to stick to.

My best gift

It has to be my first guitar. It was given to me by my dad when I was leaving school to go to university. I wasn’t particularly musical before that so that guitar started everything.

My best achievement

I had the time of my life at university in Edinburgh and still managed to come out with a 2:1 degree. Recently, though, it’s been finishing my EP. I worked very hard on that one and only time will tell if people like it.

My best buy

Over the last few months I’ve saved and saved so I could get my own home studio — and I got it a couple of weeks ago. I’ve just set it all up and recorded my first song. It means I don’t have to pay to go to a studio or if inspiration strikes I can do a quality recording any time I like without having to wait. I think it’s going to change the way I work.

My best movie

Most people probably haven’t heard of it but it’s The Last Castle with Robert Redford. It’s about a general who is sent to military prison and stages a revolution. It’s not very well known but I really enjoyed it the first time I saw it and I’ve watched it a few times since. I also really enjoyed the Bodyguard and Waterworld when I was growing up. I did watch Waterworld again recently but it wasn’t as good as I remember.

My best book

I’m not a big reader but I really enjoyed The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.
