Home Life

Exquisite Charm

by Stephanie Bell

A truly scrumptious Holywood home for all the family … Stephanie Bell reports

A move to Cornwall for its current owners meant having to reluctantly part with this truly beautiful Holywood home.

It was with great care that they have carried out an extensive renovation, retaining the integrity of the original Victorian house but bringing it in line with today's lifestyle through the creation of a super open plan living/kitchen/dining room.

It has five spacious bedrooms and two further reception rooms plus a utility room.

An entrance porch with part panelled walls and stripped pine floor opens onto a spacious entrance hall with lots of period charm. There is a solid oak floor, feature plate rack, cornicing and ceiling rose.

The drawing room has a stunning marble fireplace and solid oak wooden floor with an archway opening to a lovely family room.

In here a slate fireplace casts a cosy feel across another elegant space with more fine period features.

The large kitchen/living/dining room is a superb space with cream Shaker style units with granite worktops. There is a gorgeous black gas Aga cooker with cream over mantle and central island unit with Aroka worktop.

The dining area is lit from above by three Velux windows and the casual sitting area has an attractive handmade work station with matching pastel painted units and built in book shelves. French doors open to the back garden. A utility room is also fitted with cream Shaker-style units and granite worktops and a Belfast sink.

On the landing there is a spectacular stained glass window which makes a lovely reading area. Four of the five bedrooms have period fireplaces and there is also a study with a fireplace on the first floor.

One bedroom comes with an en suite shower room and there is a beautiful family bathroom finished with a ball and foot cast iron bath, high flush WC and double shower unit with drencher and telephone hand shower.

This luxurious space also features underfloor heating and a Travertine floor with Venetian marble tiled borders on the walls.

The attic is also fully-floored and insulated.

Outside the back garden is fully enclosed in lawns with a sunken patio area finished in slate. At the front there are mature hedges and a small grassed area.

The house is within walking distance of Holywood town centre and close to many leading schools.
