Anna Friel's sheer daring as she wows at the British Independent Film Awards

Anna Friel, Naomie Harris and Annabelle Wallis stood out in unusual, eye-catching gowns at the British Independent Film Awards in London, England, on Sunday night (04Dec16).

It was a night of famous faces as stars crowded into the Old Billingsgate Market for the ceremony; one of the most prestigious in the British movie award calendar.

But while the actors and audience members were keen to see which films were recognised, the event was also an opportunity for some of England's leading actresses to showcase their unique sense of style.

Anna led the way, opting for a daring dress featuring a sheer purple-grey polka dot top with a mustard yellow skirt. The ensemble allowed the 40-year-old to show off her incredible figure, including a large helping of side-boob, as she posed for photographers on the red carpet.

Showcasing her natural beauty, Anna kept her make-up clean and simple, and wore her brunette hair up in an artfully mussed undo. Drop diamond earrings and one diamond ring were the only jewels she opted for, ensuring all attention was on her stylish gown.

Bond girl Naomie was another stand-out at the ceremony, courting attention in her vibrant pink and orange floral minidress. The sweet dress was given a somewhat gothic twist courtesy of black netting around the neck and on the sleeves, with a thick black belt around the middle highlighting the actress' tiny waist.

Due to the fussy nature of the dress, Naomie cleverly decided to keep her hair and make-up simple, wearing her locks teased back into a sleek ponytail and going for a slight smoky eye, pink lip and dash of blush to complement her ensemble.

She had some competition on the floral front however from Peaky Blinders star Annabelle. The actress, who is dating Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, showed off her lithe physique in an unusual oriental style gown, which featured images of flowers and birds against a dove grey backdrop. Maroon accents on the dress were perfectly set off with piping of the same colour at unusual angles across Annabelle's body, with The Mummy star accessorising with a pair of maroon velvet heels and matching dark lipstick and nail polish.

Other stars to wow at the event included Gemma Arterton, who displayed her new pixie hairdo perfectly in an asymmetric black dress, former Downton Abbey star Laura Carmichael, who opted for a blue crochet-style gown, and Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson, who donned a green silk dress which worked stunningly with her bright red tresses.

The men also looked sharp for the occasion, with Michael Fassbender, Jamie Dornan and Douglas Booth leading the way.
