Behind the scenes: Meet the team behind Northern Woman’s April issue fashion shoot
Northern Woman’s April issue is available to buy from Monday, March 19
Northern Woman magazine features a fashion editorial shoot in every issue - we meet the team behind this month's looks.
Northern Woman Editor, Catriona Doherty, said: “We always look to the runways for inspiration and this month we focus on head-to-toe colour blocking; think vibrant pinks, reds, yellows, blues and more.
“The April shoot took place in Catchlight Studios, Belfast and, as always, we had the very best local talent working together to pull off a fashion-forward spread. Our front cover really stands out from the crowd – so when you spot it in the shop, be sure to pick it up for your monthly fix of fashion, beauty, fitness and a lot more besides.”

“It was all about colour on our April shoot and Niamh was keen to get the colours bouncing out of the page. With so many backdrop colour changes on the day, the shoot was fast-paced in order to keep up with the clothing changes, but as a team we all got there.
“A personal favorite was the purple dress look; the background, model and hair just sit so well together in the photo. The lovely Jenny, our model, had to make something happen in such a small space unlike our location shoots, and she did wonderful. It was another great day working with some of the best creatives in the industry.”
Stylist: Niámh Cunningham
“2018 brings the year of colour expression; big and bold palettes that express our creativity and individuality. Anyone that knows my style or follows me on Instagram (@niamhxcunn), will know that I love matching my colours up to create outfits of solid block colours and really pushing the boat on the big and bold concept. So when it came to organising this month’s spread, the Pantone fashion frenzy was one of the first trends that came to mind.
“Now of course, if bigger and bolder isn’t for you, April’s shoot will still help inspire you to add a little pop of colour to your wardrobe. As the bad weather finally leaves us, we start looking forward to the longer days and for spring to finally arrive, so getting ahead of the game and brightening up your wardrobe is a must for the season ahead.”
Hair Stylist: Grace Davison for Great Lengths
“First and foremost preparation is key in achieving a variation of desired looks. So after some careful consideration and a quick chat with our stylist, we decided on a romantic look characterised by soft waves and a chic middle parting. This style was easily transformed into a super-sleek low pony using hair as a wraparound accessory.
“For our third and final look the style was neatly reshaped into a high side precision parting, creating volume and structure to a previously polished variation. In short - keep it simple… less is more.”
Makeup Artist: Louise Donnelly
“It’s always a pleasure to do makeup for a Northern Woman fashion shoot. April’s edition focuses on colour blocking; perfect as we look forward to summer and hopefully say goodbye to this never-ending winter!
“Jenny’s makeup was perfected to achieve a colourful yet flawless look. It ties in perfectly with each outfit, using mainly lilacs and pinks on the eyes. I focused on achieving a ‘glowy’ look and kept it all extremely subtle.”
