Dita Von Teese: 'Age will never stop my burlesque career'
Dita Von Teese considered retiring from performing due to her age before realising there are plenty of burlesque dancers older than her.
Dita Von Teese insists there's more to burlesque than "just being sexy".
The raven-haired star is famed for her racy performances and is still putting on shows at the age of 44. She admits there was a time she considered retiring due to her age, however she quickly realised that self-confidence is the key to putting on an entertaining show, not a number.
"As I got older, I wasn't sure how long I could continue performing, and people constantly asked me when I was going to stop. But I looked around me and saw women I admired who are older than I am, who are sexy, beautiful, and still performing," she explained to Fox News Magazine. "I felt like I was succumbing to an ageist mentality, so I started thinking about that, as well as all the performers in burlesque whom I feel are showstoppers, and they're all over 30!
"I'm not the youngest performer in burlesque. I'm not even the prettiest. I'm not the one with the best body. There's a lot more to burlesque than just being sexy."
Another way Dita embraces her glamorous side is through her various beauty and fashion adventures, including lingerie line Von Follies by Dita Von Teese. She's often shared her top tips on how women can successfully seduce, whether in underwear or fully dressed, and gave further advice during her latest interview.
"I always say to think about yourself and how you present yourself to the world and how you practice that every day," she noted. "I believe in wearing my nice lingerie every single day. It's a moment that doesn't take any extra time out of your day. It's also a small way to exude glamour and beauty in everyday life."
