Dita Von Teese has no qualms about wearing flats

Dita Von Teese will wear costumes designed by Christian Louboutin, Jenny Packham and Swarovski in her new burlesque show.

Dita Von Teese doesn't mind being seen in flat shoes when she's off-duty.

The burlesque performer is known for her perfectly painted matte red lips and pressed waves, as well as her staggering collection of vintage lingerie, footwear and Christian Louboutin heels.

Though Dita performs on some of the world’s top stages in haute couture and is often seen perched on the front row of shows for fashion designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Dior and Marc Jacobs, the 44-year-old isn't opposed to being seen in simple shoes when off-duty.

"I'm always looking for ballet flats," she told Footwear News. "You can't live in 5-inch heels all the time."

Dita adds that in spite of owning a pair of custom Vivienne Westwood stilettos, she's not actually a fan of platform-style heels. Instead, she prefers a shoe with a sexier "curvy" heel.

"Christian Louboutin created one for me where the heel goes with the curve of the foot - making it a bit more bulbous, and it turns inward toward the foot. It's complicated to dance in because your heel is closer to the ball, but I love that tribute to the feminine form," she said. "I turn my nose at anything that has a non-curvy heel, like a straight stiletto that goes down or is too chunky."

Dita is gearing up for her new national tour, The Art of the Teese, which kicks off in February next year (17), and includes stops in Atlanta, Boston, Detroit and New York. An extravagant revue, the show features dazzling costumes by Louboutin, Jenny Packham and Swarovski.

"I have a whole section in my closet with Swarovski crystal heels lined up, including a pair
of Christian Louboutin cowboy boots covered in crystals. He also made me a patent leather thigh-high fetish boot with a round toe - very much Bettie Page, but in Christian's style; they have a red sole," smiled Dita of her new footwear.
