Drew Barrymore praised for showing grey hair in 'honest' selfie

Actress Drew Barrymore has revealed her grey roots and unplucked eyebrows in a make-up free Instagram snap.

Drew Barrymore has won praise from fans for sharing a "real" selfie online.

The 50 First Dates star always looks glamorous, whether she is posing up a storm on the red carpet or promoting her products for cosmetics brand Flower Beauty.

But Drew has now proved that she is not shy of looking natural, and revealed her grey roots and unplucked eyebrows in a make-up free photo posted on Instagram on Monday (31Jul17).

"#becomingsheila OH MY GOD How did I let it get this bad. Base and brows needed. Must become her. #santaclaritadiet here we go again. Season two," she captioned the snap, making reference to her character in the Netflix horror-comedy series Santa Clarita Diet.

Since uploading the image, the post has received nearly 90,000 likes. Numerous fans posted messages in which they shared their admiration for the star, and spoke about how refreshing it was to see a celebrity without a face full of make-up on.

"Thank you for this! More people need to understand that 'perfection' is an illusion and that true beauty is underneath. Have always loved you, love you more now," one user wrote, while another added: "In a sea of Kardashians you are a refreshing beacon of honesty and purity."

As the mother of two young girls, Drew has previously spoken about how she no longer has time for complicated beauty routines. But while she's "too lazy" to apply mascara, the 42-year-old does keep her make-up kit stocked with a few favourite products.

"I would say 90 per cent of my life, I wear zero make-up," she told The New York Times in January. "But I almost never leave the house without my Skincognito Stick Foundation from Flower, because it covers blue, red, brown, purple. And I can't live without (skin ointment) Aquaphor for my lips. I'm convinced it's got me on a feeder. I just need more, more and more."
