Fashionweek: Grown-up glamour hits the Spring catwalk

By Frances Burscough

Spring sprang into action in a blaze of colour for the second round of Belfast Fashionweek Spring/Summer '15 shows last night.

The fashion fraternity was out in force at the Bruce Street venue to cast their eyes over the very best of local designers and designer boutique collections.

Returning to the catwalk to showcase their spring selections were Belfast boutiques Blush and Jourdan, Diamond Dolls from Banbridge and Spoilt Belle Boutique from Magherafelt.

Seasoned favourites in the designer category included milliner and jeweller Grainne Maher alongside established womenswear labels by Nor Lisa, Gillian Leavy and Chloe Dougan. Newbies were also given an opportunity to set out their summer stalls and this part of the proceedings featured Mimi's Roadtrip from Moy, The Style Retreat in Lisburn, and the hugely popular artist-turned print designer Sara O'Neill.

Furthermore, an extra special highlight of the evening was the debut ranges by budding designers Catriona O'Prey, Deux Cara, Diana Mukushii and L'Or Dome.

Director of Fashionweek, Cathy Martin, said: "A real favourite among our fashion fans, the Designer and Designer Boutique show brings variety and creative flair to the runway."

Aileen Wilson, owner of Blush Boutique on the Lisburn Road said: "We have been participating in Belfast Fashionweek for over 10 years now, and are so excited for the season. I think the audience liked our collection."

New label Deux Cara proved to be one to watch with a stunning collection of formal and evening wear ranges. Co-designer John Gerard said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be on board this season with our first ever collection. Since the Fashionweek launch in January, we have received amazing support and interest."

Danielle Campbell of The Style Retreat in Lisburn, said: "This was my first ever season at Fashionweek, and I was so impressed tonight with the design talent we have here in Northern Ireland. Fashionweek is the perfect platform to showcase our designs."
