Gala luncheon ends Belfast Fashionweek in fine style

By Frances Burscough

West Coast Cooler Fashionweek ended with the customary aplomb with this season's most elegant event, the Style Sunday luncheon.

It took place on a glorious spring afternoon at Shu restaurant in Belfast. Rounding off a four-day-long series of events, the lunch, held every season in aid of Mencap, saw 80 of Belfast's best-dressed ladies get an up close and personal look at a choice selection from the new season's collections.

Guests were also given tips on make-up and hair trends by Paddy McGurgan and Brenda Shankey from hair partner Jason Shankey Hairdressing.

Cathy Martin, director of Fashionweek, said: "Style Sunday is the perfect way to end another wonderful season at Belfast Fashionweek."

This season, Fashionweek included three main catwalk shows; The Covergirl Live show kicked off the event schedule with the latest collections from CastleCourt, then the catwalk came alive with a variety of looks from local boutiques including Blush and Jourdan from the Lisburn Road, Excel from Newtownards and Bangor; The Style Retreat from Lisburn and Diamond Dolls in Banbridge.

Designers such as Grainne Maher, Nor Lisa, Chloe Dougan and Deux Cara, among others, also showcased at the local designers show and the main catwalk shows finished with high street fashion on the catwalk from Next, M&S, Oasis, Warehouse, DV8 Fashion, Remus Uomo, Excel Clothing, CastleCourt and The Outlet Banbridge.

Cathy said: "I'm so grateful for the level of support we have received from designers and retailers and to everyone who has attended the catwalk shows and other fringe events.

"As always we have worked hard to make it another success and I'm proud to say it was.

"As every Fashionweek season finishes I think we have hit our peak, yet the next season just seems to get bigger and better in every sense. The autumn dates are booked and we're looking forward to some new additions to the event schedule in October."
