Hair to the throne: How to get glossy locks like Duchess Kate Middleton

By Sinead Van Kampen

Chelsea Hair is having a bit of a moment - healthy, bossy, glossy and groomed .

Some say all that Middleton mania is to blame, others suspect Made in Chelsea is responsible for our newfound love of all things posh. I suspect it's because we're all sick of Katie Price. Whatever the reason, Trendwatch predicts a wave of glossy manes on these shores come Autumn.

Here are the rules:

Keep it trim ...

This look is prim polished and perfectly manicured so dry split ends simply won't do. Keep it trimmed, below the shoulders, and above the boobs. This will give you optimum volume and movement.

Colour me beautiful ...

Over processed highlights are out and block colours are in. Think chestnuts, hazelnuts and walnuts. For glossy shine, darker colours will work best as they work to reflect the light. As there's no room for playing with texture and colour with this, resist the urge to experiment. The look is simple and elegant.

Master the blow dry ...

Plenty of bounce is key when it comes to mastering this look so ditch the straighteners and learn to handle a hairdryer. Blowdry upside down with a round brush to add some lift at the roots and, for some instant oomph, add a bit more body with the tongs.

Va va voom ...

Dry, sticky tresses overloaded with products is not a good look. Chelsea hair is soft and natural and shouldn't be too weighed down.

Swap the extra-hold for light salt-sprays and ditch the high shine products in favour of natural hair oils.
