How to get a pout like Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez’s stunning red lip from the Golden Globes explained.
Jennifer Lopez’s make-up artist Mary Phillips has relived the actress and singer’s stunning 2016 Golden Globe look.
Jennifer, 47, wowed in a yellow Giambattista Valli gown, featuring a thigh-high split and cape detailing, when she walked the red carpet for the Golden Globes in January (16).
As awards season fast approaches once again, Mary has opened up about the stunning look for the annual The Hollywood Reporter Beauty Issue.
"We wanted the make-up to be complementary without being matchy-matchy. A red lip would have been too predictable with the colour of her dress and too literal, as the look was also a bit of a nod to Old Hollywood. A red lip would have been dated, costume-y,” Mary told the publication.
Instead the pair went for a more burgundy hue, with gold shimmer eyes, long lashes and glowing, bronzed skin.
The eventual lip shade was a mix of three L'Oreal gloss colours: a deep berry, dark brick red, and nude.
“I took a portion from each colour family and applied it in a sort of 3D effect so it all blended together and looked seamless, not like a tie-dye of unblended colour,” she recalled. “I built up the lip in different areas, applying more concentrated colours that were darker to the outside of the mouth and then working my way in.
Mary adds that she wanted Jennifer’s lips to look “dark but not vampy” and focused on giving her lips dimension rather than a one-note hue.
“This is a custom lip just for Jennifer,” she explained. “It gives a very full lip effect, while not being too wet or too matte at the same time. I used a lip liner, applied lipstick straight from the tube, with a brush and also with one of my fingers."
