Liam Hemsworth starved himself ahead of topless scene
Liam Hemsworth relied on push-ups and tiny portions ahead of his half-naked scene with Kate Winslet in The Dressmaker.
The Hunger Games hunk Liam Hemsworth stuck to a diet of push-ups and not much else in preparation for going topless in his new film.
The scene in The Dressmaker called for Liam to wear only a pair of boxer shorts while sitting next to Kate Winslet who is taking his measurements for a new suit. In the film, released in the U.K. last year but out next week in the U.S., Liam plays a local farmer who gets romantically involved with Kate's character when she returns to her Australian hometown to look after her ailing mother. And looking good in his undies was clearly very important.
"I didn't eat for weeks," Hemsworth, 26, joked to E! News during his promotional duties for the film in New York City. He also admits he didn't have too much opportunity to hit the gym during filming so had to make the best of what he had on hand.
"I did some pushups in my trailer," he laughed. "Anytime you're going to come out and take your top off, it's good to do a couple of pushups... It's very difficult to come out and just take your clothes off."
Liam reveals his 40-year-old Oscar-winning co-star was fully supportive of his good-looking body, telling him, "You do look fabulous". But she also suspected he was cutting out his carbs ahead of the day's shoot.
"When I would get to the point where I had to measure his waist, I would actually hear his stomach growling," she frowns. "I would think, 'Poor darling. Let's get the scene done.'"
Hemsworth insists he has more than made up for his war-time-like rations on set with plenty of burgers and fries on his menu once the semi-naked scene was in the can. His burgers are vegan though since he and on-again girlfriend Miley Cyrus, 23, both avoid meat and dairy products.
The couple was spotted at Catch restaurant in Manhattan, New York on Friday evening (16Sep16), once Liam had finished his press interviews, and they enjoyed crispy cauliflower, a beet salad, vegan gnocchi, Chinese water spinach and broccolini on the swanky eaterie's rooftop deck.
Perhaps still making up for the stomach-growling days, Liam was also spotted sampling doughnuts, coconut cake and a s'mores pizza for dessert.
