We are well into the Christmas festive season, and although winter is the perfect time to embrace the pale, many women prefer a warmer, golden complexion at this time of year. Here are my top bronzing products to give you added glow and warmth this winter.
First, I love using a tinted primer to add a touch of bronzed glow to the skin. There are many different types available but I recommend using Make Up Studio Bronze Shimmer Effects (£22.50). This is an amazing primer which hydrates the skin and adds a lightweight layer of liquid illuminator. I use this on the outer sections of the face to add extra glow and a bronzed finish.
The next step is foundation. If you love a bronzed and dewy finish, then look for ingredients or key words such as "glow", "dewy" and "radiance", while of course making sure you try the foundation first. I love using the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation (£33), a glowing, natural radiant finish foundation with sheer and buildable coverage that immaculately evens skin tone. Replete with skincare benefits and the NARS Complexion Brightening Formula, it leaves skin hydrated, more luminous, softer and smoother.
After you have applied your translucent loose powder to set your complexion, to add more touches of radiance on the skin, buff small amounts of a loose shimmer powder lightly and very sparsely across the face to bring more glow and warmth back into the skin. Try Lusso Tan Finishing Touch Shimmer (£20) to enhance the glow of your tan with a veil of silky loose shimmering dust, rich in light-reflecting particles to create a gentle luminosity. Sweep along cheekbones, collarbone, shoulders and shins for sunkissed highlights or mix with moisturiser for an all-over body shimmer.
The most commonly used product for bronzing and adding warmth and definition is cream and powder bronzer. A cream bronzer is perfect for adding shape and added definition to the cheek bones and outer sections of the face. For this I love using Make up Forever Ultra HD Foundation Stick in shade Y505 (£30). The 'Ultra HD' invisible cover stick foundation creates a flawless complexion on camera and to the naked eye. Developed specifically for the film and TV industry's most advanced technology, it is completely invisible under the latest, super-focused 4k lens. The revolutionary foundation contains amino acid coated pigments that provide medium to full coverage with a lightweight, second skin texture that looks just like skin.
I know that a lot of people (especially the younger amongst us) feel that using cream contouring is the best way to achieve a sharp and defined contour, but I would disagree. For me, using a matte bronzer allows me to shape the face in areas where I can add and create shadows to add more definition and create a more symmetrical finish. I love using Make Up Atelier Contour and Highlight Kit (£24.50), a professional contouring powder kit for high definition make-up. Palettes are composed of a satin highlight and a soft modelling shade. I adore the finish of this kit, and how easily it builds on itself. The pigment of these are strong but are so buildable to allow you to achieve the preferred definition you want.
If you are a lover of highlight and glow, then you will be no stranger to powder highlighter. There really are so many powder highlighters available to buy on the market at the moment, but one I have recently tried and loved was Doll Beauty Highlighter (£15) in shades Shine Bright and Like a Diamond. The highlighter adds a subtle, buildable shimmer to the high points of the face. Presented in a pink mirrored compact, the soft powder is perfect for both fair and medium skin tones and should be applied with a fluffy brush.
Another amazing way to add glow and warmth to your make-up routine is by using warm tones on the eyes. Try Urban Decay 'Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette' (£42), a palette of 12 never-before-picked neutrals. This vamped up cherry-hued palette is sure to bring out your sultry Christmas looks and includes a range of soft mattes and sizzling metallics, ranging from creamy ivory and shimmering coppers and plums to the most intense black cherry. Again, I love the consistency of each shade - its texture is velvety and rich in colour and blend-ability.
And finally, for your winter bronzed look, opt for a nude lip combination. I recently tried the new Bperfect Cosmetics x Ellie Kelly Born Ready Lip Kit in shade BOO (£24.99). This is the ultimate lip kit for fuller looking and hydrated lips, which contain a Bperfect lipstick, highlighter gloss and lip liner pencil, that will leave your lips feeling smooth and ready for any occasion. I love the lip liner - it is easily to blend but highly pigmented and their lipstick has a demi matte finish which gives you a maximum staying power.
1. Add a tinted moisturiser to your beauty routine for added glow and warmth in your complexion
2. Always use a matte bronzer, for extra definition and contouring.
3. Use a facial setting spray to add hydration and dew back into the skin after your make-up and will ensure it lasts longer.
4. Add brightness into the inner corner of your eye for an extra pop of natural brightness in your eye makeup.
5. Add a shimmer brown eyeshadow across the lid for a pop of sparkle.
