I have always stressed the importance of SPF and nourishing your skin to avoid the negative effects of the sun.
One of the most common questions that clients ask is how to restore dehydrated or sun-damaged to its original state. Here are some products that are great for skin nourishment and damage prevention.
Try La Roche-Posay's Thermal Spring Water Face & Body Spray (£6.99) to refresh and hydrate your skin in the hotter weather. While this product is suitable for all skin types, those with sensitive skin will benefit greatly from the soothing, softening formula. Ideally, use this spray daily to maintain fresh and smooth skin.
The e.l.f. Moisturising Sleeping Face Mask (£11.99) is perfect for those with a busy schedule - simply pop the mask on before bed and let it soak into your skin overnight. The formula is infused with aloe, vitamin E, purified water and jojoba oil, meaning you will awake to soft, nourished skin that looks fresh and hydrated.
For a natural coverage in summer, add a BB Cream with SPF to your beauty routine. Bobbi Brown's BB Cream (£32) perfects the appearance of skin in five ways as it moisturises, brightens, evens skin tone, covers imperfections and reduces the look of wrinkles - all while protecting your skin against the damaging effects of sun rays.
Opt for a cream blusher over a powder product in the summer for added hydration. This will not only give your skin a dewy appearance, but can be treated as a multi-use product and applied to the lips for a subtle lift of colour. I recommend the Make Up For Ever HD Cream Blusher (£11.25, Make Up Pro Store) because the creamy formula melts into the skin, leaving a long-lasting, natural flush of colour. This product is super easy to blend, allowing for controlled application and flawless looking skin.
For a summer-inspired eye look, try wearing rich, warm-toned colours as this will instantly complement your sun-kissed complexion. I have recently tried the Let's Gold Palette from Make Up For Ever (£38) and I adore the beautiful rich gold tones which are suitable for a summer's day or night.
Your lashes deserve love, too - don't let them dry out in the summer air. For a moisturising mascara that will enrich and lengthen your lashes, try Maybelline's Lash Sensational Mascara (£9). The brush comes with six different lengths of bristles, meaning the product will apply to even the tiniest lashes, giving the appearance of layers and layers of voluminous lashes.
Five top tips for preventing dehydrated skin
1. Drink more water - this will automatically replenish and hydrate the skin as well as increase cell turnover.
2. Use hydrating products on your skin, such as setting sprays and moisturisers.
3. Add aloe vera to your skin care routine - this will not only cool and soothe the skin, but will encourage hydration.
4. Use water-based foundations - these appear fresh and dewy on the skin, unlike other foundations which have drying effects.
5. Avoid over-powdering. This can often make the skin appear dehydrated and if overused, can sit in fine lines and expression lines.
