Prevention will always be better than cure. And incorporating a few anti-ageing products into your skincare and make-up routine will ensure that your skin remains youthful and flawless for longer. Here are a few of my favourite secret anti-ageing weapons for any mature skin make-up!

First up, one of the most important elements that will aid your anti-ageing adventure is your skincare - more importantly, how you remove your make-up, cleanse your skin and how you treat your skin afterwards with a moisturiser.

There is no hero product that will do everything for everyone. Skincare is very personal - for example your skin type, how dull or dehydrated your skin is, whether you have excess oils in your skin or if you are conscious of fine lines.

I am going to recommend a cleanser based on my general experience with mature ladies and I find the main issues tend to be dryness and fine lines. For your cleanser try ALGENIST- Genius Ultimate Anti-Ageing Melting Cleanser (£32, Space NK).

This is a luxurious deep cleansing product which lifts even the most difficult worn-on make-up with ease, leaving skin feeling purified, revitalised and refreshed. Visibly replenishing and reviving, it restores a youthful appearance thanks to the presence of breakthrough anti-ageing substance alguronic acid.

As we approach spring, we are going to see more sunshine and may venture out for walks and strolls. Try to add SPF into your day-time make-up routine. I really cannot recommend using SPF enough for your day-time make-up. We are constantly under attack from UVb rays and free radicals which damage our skin, leaving it appearing older with increasing fine lines and the signs of ageing.

Opt for a moisturiser with SPF such as Vichy Anti Age Cream (Boots UK, £16.50). This formula is proven to combat the appearance of ageing signs, including lack of radiance, loss of elasticity and wrinkles, for supple and youthful-looking skin.

For mature skin or anyone conscious of fine lines and wrinkles, it can often be hard to counteract any discoloration in the skin, especially under the eye, as some concealers can be very heavy in areas and highlight fine lines. For this I highly recommend using a lightweight liquid concealer, buff under the eye or on any blemish to correct redness.

Try Shiseido Sheer Eye Zone Corrector (£23.50, Boots UK), an ultra-sheer concealer that works to cancel out colour noise around the delicate eye area. This unique corrector neutralises dark circles, smooths uneven skin and reduces fine lines to create a flawless complexion.

For anyone conscious of fine lines and wanting a sheer coverage foundation that will not cake in any unnecessary areas, then I really cannot recommend Make Up For Ever Water Blend Foundation (£27.50) enough! The quick and easy application makes it ideal for both the face and the body, as this water-based waterproof foundation evens out the complexion to leave a natural-looking satin finish.

Created with 80% water, this long-lasting unique water-gel texture naturally hydrates and blends in evenly for a smooth, flawless look.

As we age, our eyes tend to sag and appear smaller, so we need to find ways to brighten and lighten the eyes to allow them to appear bigger. Darkness always makes the eyes appear smaller, so if you are a glam girl and love full eye make-up, why not try a concealer pencil in your waterline as opposed to a black kohl.

A concealer pencil simply corrects any natural redness found in the waterline, and will make the eye appear brighten and bigger. For any day-time look, try NYX Professional Makeup Wonder Pencil (£4.50, Boots UK).

Paddy's top five tips for anti-ageing make-up

1. Invest in a tinted moisturiser - this will not only hydrate and add moisture to the skin, but will add good coverage for a day-time sheer look.

2. Avoid pressed powders as these can often crease into fine lines. Opt for a lightweight loose powder - pat onto the skin and then buff in circular motions. This will create a flawless effect on the skin.

3. To give your eye make-up an added lift, invest in a pair of eyelash curlers. These give a gentle full lash effect without using large amounts of mascara

4. Choose a matte bronzer for giving your face a sculpted effect - this will sit smoothly on the skin and not highlight any areas of concern.

5. For your lips, choose a gloss finish to make the lips appear hydrated and luscious. Who does not need this in the cold weather?
