Make-up masterclass: Top tips for flawless false lash application
Paddy McGurgan is one of NI's best-known beauty experts and every week he'll tell you all you need to know about the latest make-up techniques
If you're a glam-enthusiast or you like to add just a touch of drama to your look, you're probably an avid user of false lashes. However, for those who aren't so sure about what lashes to buy, where to get them or how to apply them, it can be a struggle finding the right product.
As there are so many different styles available on the beauty market, I have made a list of my all-time favourites, so you can finally decide what lashes to add to your basket...
Red Cherry Lashes - #43 (Stevi), £3.99
These best-selling lashes offer a natural look, while still making a statement. Super lightweight and easy to apply, Stevi lashes are ideal for day-to-day wear, as well as nights out and special occasions.
Tatti Lashes, £10
If you're seeking a fierce cat-eye look, then you should probably pick up some Tatti Lashes. Extra wispy with the added curl, Tatti's lashes carry most of their drama and fullness towards the end of the eye to give you that sexy look. You can reuse these false lashes up to 20 times, meaning you get more bang for your buck.
Ardell Lashes - Demi Wispies, £6.99
Achieve a naturally voluminous look with Ardell's Demi Wispies. Made with natural hairs that have been knotted and feathered by hand for perfect uniformity, these lashes are super-comfortable to wear and easy to apply. I love these lightweight, reusable lashes because they're set upon an invisible band for discreet wear, but you're still sure to catch some eyes!
Huda Beauty x Lottie, £23
Triple-stacked for extra 'oomph', these lashes offer incredible length and volume, perfect for achieving a flirty, glamorous look. Created from silk fibres, Lottie lashes are soft, dramatic and phenomenally fluttery. While the price may seem a little steep, you can reuse these lashes again and again - but I recommend keeping them for an intense finishing touch on those 'full glam' make-up days.
Grainne McCoy Lashes, £7.95
I adore this extensive lash brand from my good friend and business lady supremo, Grainne McCoy. You can achieve an individual false lash effect with these lashes, ideal for day or night. These lashes are set upon a lightweight band, so for anyone hesitant about wearing lashes in fear of adding weight to the eye area, worry no more!
SoSu Lashes, £4.95
SoSu false lashes by Suzanne Jackson are probably one of the most recognised lashes available in the beauty industry. Amazingly versatile and easy to apply, all of the Premium Lashes can be worn throughout both day and night. Made with 100% human hair, these lashes feel natural and comfortable to wear.
LeiLash Mink Lashes, £25
If you want to achieve a full glam look that really makes your eyes 'pop' in photos, wearing a pair of these gorgeous and fluffy strip lashes is your best bet. Lightweight but full, I recommend trying the LeiLash style 'Its All About Me' - these are absolutely fabulous and super-dramatic.
Paddy's top tips for false eyelash application
- Align the band with the natural lash line. Trim excess if needed.
- After you have applied glue to the lash band, wait 40-50 seconds until the adhesive is tacking.
- Place the lash in the centre of your natural lashes, then, using tweezers, push the inner corner of the strip lash in place, followed by the outer corner.
- Press the false lash against your natural lashes, then fix as needed for comfort.
