Meet the Northern Ireland schoolgirl dubbed the new Kate Moss

By Aaron Tinney

She has just turned 16 but this slender schoolgirl is already being hailed as the new Kate Moss.

Caitlyn Leckey has just taken the catwalks of London Fashion Week by storm after displaying an elegance and image beyond her years.

Now experts are tipping the Co Antrim girl as a “face of the future” with the ability to match the success of supermodels including Kate Moss — discovered aged 14.

But the 5ft 9in Belfast Royal Academy pupil — who’s in the middle of studying for GCSEs — is taking it all in her stride.

“Some of London Fashion Week was nerve-wracking but most of it was grand,” Caitlyn said. The running about between shows and castings was the hardest part.

“I did about 12 or 13 catwalks for fresh designers like Felder Felder. It was ridiculously tiring because I was working from 7am to 10pm most nights.

“When I got home school seemed far easier. There’s other teenage models out there doing a lot bigger shows than me but I want to get my exams and I’m happy where I am.” Caitlyn started modelling at just nine when she did promotional shots for her mum’s tanning business. She was then spotted by talent scouts and got her big break last month when she ended up on the runways of London Fashion Week displaying the work of up-and-coming designers.

While in London Caitlyn was taken under the wing of multi-millionaire supermodel Erin O’Connor — the former face of Marks & Spencer whose dad is from Ballycastle, Co Antrim.

Caitlyn, who lives in Templepatrick with her mum, added: “It was really nice to meet Erin and she has brilliant ideas.

“She runs the Model Sanctuary where models can go between catwalk shows to relax and unwind and that was a great relief to go there.”

Caitlyn is now focused on getting “solid” marks in her GCSEs and says she might want to sing, dance or act for a living in the future. Her ambition to entertain could be helped by her mum Alyson Hogg’s connections.

The beautician is contracted to give the X Factor finalists spray tans in London.

Her other celeb clients have included singer Rachel Stevens.
