Trends covered in the February issue of Northern Woman include pretty pastels, neutrals and oriental style.

In our March edition we focus on dark denim, asymmetric hemlines, contrasting textures and polka dot print. I had these looks in mind when out shopping but wasn’t looking for a specific trend.

Purchase 1. Jacquard Dress from Zara, Belfast £19.99

I spotted this midi dress in Zara at the total bargain price of £19.99! I loved the voluminous sleeves and on-trend midi length. It’s quite flattering on as it’s loose fitting; it hugs the hips slightly and skims over any lumps and bumps. I thought that the diamond-print pattern made me look bigger than I actually am, so I opted for the more figure flattering red and lavender jacquard print dress, and the black one also.

Purchase 2: Geometric Design Scarf from Zara, Belfast £17.99

The secret to avoiding ‘office war’ is to wear layers to work. To hot? Take off a layer. Feeling cold? Wrap a scarf around your shoulders.

While queuing to pay for my dresses I noticed this scarf in red, white and yellow geometric print, and couldn’t resist the impulse buy.

Purchase 3: Polka Dot Top from Dorothy Perkins, Belfast £26

Purchase 4: Jacket from Dorothy Perkins, Belfast £35

This baby pink jacket and polka dot top from Dorothy Perkins, Castle Court caught my attention as pastels and polka are such key S/S 18 trends.

The monochrome top would great teamed with cut-off jeans for dress down Friday, or worn with ankle grazer trousers for Monday-Thursday office wear.

Purchase 5: Black Tee from Quiz, Belfast £17.99

Purchase 6: High Waisted Trousers from Quiz, Belfast £26.99

Walking through CastleCourt I noticed these black palazzo trousers in the window of Quiz. Black trousers are always a great option for work wear. The military-style buttons on the front distinguish the Quiz pair from all of the other black trousers that I already have in my wardrobe, and the printed t-shirt gives the outfit a more casual vibe. The tee and trouser combo cost only £44.98 for the total look.

Purchase 7: High-waisted yellow trousers  from River Island £45

Spring 2016 runways were awash with all shades of yellow – from buttercup yellow to mustard and lemon shades. Mustard is one of the trendiest colours this season according to Pinterest data, which found that searches for the shade are up 270% from 2016.

In the featured image, which was styled by Niamh Cunningham, model Meagan Green wears high-waisted yellow trousers from River Island. I love the versatility of these trousers as they could be worn to the office or styled up for a night out on the town.
