Northern Woman fashion picks: What’s new in the shops this week?
Northern Woman editor Catriona Doherty checks out the shops to see which new season trends have made it in store
Trends covered in recent issues of Northern Woman include Dad sneakers, pastels and head-to-toe colour blocking, so I had these looks in mind before hitting the shops.
Purchase 1: Turquoise Hila Trousers, £32, and Turquoise Hila Top, £26, by Vila from Debenhams
I have had my eye on pyjama-style two pieces for a while, but I feel some styles in the shops look too much like sleepwear.
Today I picked up this gorgeous floral co-ordinated set by Vila from Debenhams’ Brand Mrkt range in CastleCourt, Belfast. If you are not familiar with Brand Mrkt it is made up of high street brands with affordable price tags including Vero Moda, VILA and Moves.
This two-piece is an unbelievably comfortable outfit, and I love that the top and trousers can be worn together or mixed and matched with pieces I already own.
Purchase 2: Printed Tee from Stradivarius, £17.99
I bought this t-shirt from Stradivarius because I loved the bright colours and the versatility of the tee; it can be styled with culottes, midi-skirts, jeans… anything really.
Back at the office I was informed by my colleagues that the print is actually of a “really cool” Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
Purchase 3: Faux Suede Biker Jacket from Zara, £25.99
£25.99 – what a total bargain! This faux suede biker from Zara comes in soft pink, black, navy blue and light grey.
I’m 5’8 and I thought the jacket just fitted me and no more, so if you are shorter in height it will probably look better on you – but at that price, who’s complaining?
On my wish list: Nike Air Max Style No: 20144 from Schuh, £100
Having written about Dad trainers for the Northern Woman April edition, I have become more aware of this frumpy new fashion trend. While browsing the shops I was looking at for a masculine-style chunky sole, lace-up, nineties-style shoe, and this Nike pair caught my eye. I don’t tend to wear trainers that often so this is an “I’ll think about it” buy.
On my wish list: White boucle double-breasted jacket from River Island, £68
I love this double-breasted jacket. It’s quite big fitting, so I get to drop a dress size (in my head anyway), which is a lovely bonus.
A classic white jacket will never date and this one has a Chanel feel to it without the designer price tag.
