Red carpet unrolled for Belfast FashionWeek

By Louise Small

Belfast FashionWeek promises to dazzle us with style again this year as the top local couturiers descend on the city to show off their new year collections.

Fashionistas will swarm around the catwalks for the eighth year of the glamour event.

This year’s FashionWeek models will wear garments from former Belfast Telegraph Woman of the Year Una Rodden, the Armani shop at The Outlet in Banbridge, up-and-coming designer Candy Plum, The Right Tights, Lizzie Agnew and Grainne Maher and John Paul Millinery to name a few.

Pastel shades and soft tailored styles with the essence of romantic summer and soft hues are expected to flood the catwalk at this year’s show.

The collections for spring/summer 2012 will feature loosely-fitted floral garments using delicate fabrics such as silk.

Nipped waists, flowing pleats and feathers are all the rage this spring, with designs based on Chanel’s latest collection.

Laurina Kennedy is the new face of Belfast FashionWeek.

Model Katie Larmour previously filled the role and said it’s a huge honour and privilege — never mind a boost to any model’s career.

“I am really lucky being involved in FashionWeek,” she said.

“I was the face of Belfast FashionWeek a couple of years ago and it is such an amazing thing for a model.”

The Right Tights is the legwear sponsor for the shows this year.

Owner Emma French said: “I am so excited, I have always loved Belfast FashionWeek and as soon as I started up my online business I wanted to be involved, it helps to keep everything local.”

Director of Belfast FashionWeek Cathy Martin said: “Our exciting programme will include breathtaking catwalk shows featuring stunning models styled to perfection.”

Belfast Fashionweek, which is sponsored by West Coast Cooler, runs from March 14-18 at the Europa Hotel.
