Stars rock black and white at the Critics' Choice Awards

Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman were among the stars who wowed in all black gowns at the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards.

A monochrome colour palette seemed to be the order of the day for the A-list at the Critics' Choice Awards 2016.

Stars like Emma Stone, Nicole Kidman and Kate Beckinsale stunned in black, while Amy Adams, Sarah Paulson and Lily Collins wowed in white.

La La Land actress Emma, who missed out on the Best Actress gong to Natalie Portman’s portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, did win in the style stakes thanks to her black sequinned Roland Mouret dress with cut out detail, Jimmy Choo shoes and Christian Louboutin clutch. Her flame coloured hair was worn poker straight with a deep side part. Berry lips and dark eyes finished the look.

Nicole also flashed a little bit of flesh in her black Brandon Maxwell gown, which featured a triangle cut out showing off her toned stomach, and a thigh high centre split.

British star Kate turned heads on the blue carpet in a black sheer ball gown covered in glitter and jewels by Reem Acra which added a touch of drama to proceedings.

At the other end of the spectrum was Arrival star Amy in a white Atelier Versace dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, Tyler Ellis clutch and Nirav Modi jewellery, Lily went for gothic glamour in a high necked Elie Saab white lace number and Sarah looked elegant in a heavily embellished pencil skirt two-piece by Vera Wang.

Michelle Williams went for a Louis Vuitton monochrome dress, while Michelle Monaghan added a white bow to her black lace blazer and sheer trousers by Monique Lhuillier.

There were some splashes of colour too, with Bryce Dallas Howard opting for a bright chartreuse gown by high street favourite Topshop, Viola Davis in an aqua blue Michael Kors gown and Hailee Steinfeld in a floral Jason Wu number.
