Summer ready skin: How to get that glow from within
Belfast beauty blogger Carolyn Henderson reveals her top picks to get that extra summer glow
As the heatwave makes its way across Europe, the ‘Mediterranean melt’ has got me thinking about how to create that beautiful, radiant glow reminiscent of warm summer days.
To be fair, and I’m being honest, when it comes to hot, humid conditions, I’m normally the one melting in the corner, unable to cope, with ‘that glow’ actually just arising from beads of perspiration.
However, when I’m not suffering from stifling, stuffy weather, I’ve a few products in my arsenal that I reach for, to create a more polished version of that ‘glow’ that looks dewy and youthful, rather than sweaty and oily.
Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palette in Dolce Vita, £39
A gorgeous little quad of glittery, deliciousness that was kindly gifted to me as a birthday present. Little did I know that in all the time I’ve had the product, I had been applying the gold glitter completely incorrectly, using a brush, which caused fallout and reduced the intensity of the shade and glittering effect.
I recently learnt at the Charlotte Tilbury Belfast Blogger event, hosted by the lovely Amy Savage (@cosmetics.junkiee) that it was better to apply it with your finger directly on to the lid, to get a deeper, richer colour and to let the glitter shine through. I also tend to apply this to the tops of my cheeks and even on top of my lipstick to get a really beautiful, glittery golden glow.
Pixi Beauty Liquid Fairy Lights Eyeshadow in Passionlight, £15
A slightly cheaper alternative to the Stila Cosmetics Glitter Shadow, this little beauty leaves a lovely bronzed shade across your lid with a really strong glitter finish. This is perfect for applying across the entire lid or just in the corners of the eyes for a cheeky little bit of glitz.
Lusso Tan Skin Perfector, £19.99
I normally reach for Bellamianta Dark Rapid Mousse when getting my glow on for the weekend, but after a few days when the tan is starting to lift, I will add a little something extra for a bit more coverage and to cover any veins and blemishes.
I like the Lusso Tan Skin Perfector as it’s a really lovely shade and it has a touch of sparkle to give my legs a more radiant glow. I apply it using a mitt to get a nice even layer.
Lusso Tan Shimmer Powder, £20
A super shimmery product that is perfect for adding a stunning sunkissed glow. You can apply directly on to the highpoints of your cheeks, your collar bone and décolletage for an intense glow. Or you can even apply it down the front of your legs for a beautiful sheen and slimming effect.
Nyx Illuminator in Ritualistic, £9.50
To mimic the natural glow that you get when the sun hits the high points of your face, I would dust this highlighting powder across the tops of my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose and on my cupids bow. This is a pretty inexpensive product and it leaves a lovely, heavenly hue.
Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, £34
A very recent addition to my skincare collection, this facial oil melts into the skin really quickly and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky or oily. After frequenting the Clarins Clinic at House of Fraser Belfast, where I had the most relaxing, soothing facial of my life, I noticed that my skin was noticeably glowing and looked healthy and rejuvenated.
I really want to keep up that youthful, dewy skinned look and this facial oil definitely helps to keep my skin feeling and looking amazing.
