Sunny fashion: Stepping into Summer with casual cool tees
Belfast fashion blogger Carolyn Henderson takes a look at the top tees for the new summer season
Is that Summer I see peeking out from behind an overcast sky?
I think we may finally be able to trade in sudden hailstorms and heavy spring showers for brighter, warmer days and beautiful sunset evenings. I for one cannot wait to stow away my chunky, woollen knits and long length coats in favour of summer sandals, cool shades and short sleeve tees.
My garment of choice on a daily basis is normally a long sleeve shirt or blouse, because it’s work friendly and goes with everything. I normally go for a print or pattern, to jazz up the look as I tend to team it with standard skinny jeans and plain ankle boots. When it comes to t-shirts, I’m the opposite, I keep them plain and simple, choosing to ramp up my accessory game and pair with a brightly coloured bag, shoes or shades. However, this season I’m feeling drawn to tees with a little slogan, a splash of colour or a little quirky design.
Here are a select few of new tee additions to my wardrobe.
1. I should be so lucky
Excuse the cheesy 80s lyric, it had to be done! This tee is perfect for teaming with high-waisted mom jeans and red accessories. Purchased from good old faithful New Look, it’s comfy and loose fitting and very in expensive. I’m hoping that the embroidered slogan brings me a little luck in real life summer adventures.
New Look, £8.99
2. Ciao Ciao
I adore this little tee as it’s cute and colourful with a pretty little Italian slogan across the front. For me, I think it’s fab worn with a denim skirt and red summer shoes and maybe even a red beret if you’re wanting to go full on parisian-esque with Breton stripes and traditional headwear.
New Look, £8.99
3. Feeling Femme
I admit this is a style that’s been about for a while and we all know that it’s a play on a rather famous fashion house logo and design. They do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! I choose to wear mine tied in a knot at the front and teamed with mom jeans for daytime or worn with a bodycon skirt and heels for night.
Missy Empire, £14
4. Succulents & Cacti
This is probably my fave with a cute and quirky embroidered cactus design on a simple, white tee. The easiest to style and a piece that I don’t feel will date too quickly. I’ll be wearing mine with a denim pinafore or skinny ripped jeans.
