School gate style has never been so chic, thanks to a Belfast fashion blogger. Helen Carson reports
With her figure-flattering skinny jeans, practical pumps and colourful print dresses Avril Keys, (38), has become an online sensation with her blog School Gate Style.
The stay-at-home mum posts her school run attire daily, after dropping her three young children Gemma, Katie and Calum off in the morning, while rating the merits of everything from coloured jeans to belted jackets and all manner of accessories she teams with her high street buys.
Budget-conscious and style-savvy, Avril says affordable fashion that always gets top marks is available to all. Here are her six top tips for a stylish school run.
Trench coat/belted Mac
Every mum should have one. Transforms the most ordinary outfit into a chic ‘pulled together’ look (even pyjamas).
Well cut dark denim jeans
Skinny, straight or bootcutjust make sure they are dark navy denim for a classic look that you can team with almost anything.
An amazing scarf
Keep your main items fairly neutral but get the colour going in your accessories. A fab scarf will lift your whole look. Cheap, too.
Cross body coloured satchel
Again, a great way to brighten up your look and also super practical as they leave your hands free to hold on to the kids.
The good old Northern Ireland weather makes boots a necessity. I like long brown flat boots whichcan be worn under and over jeans and with skirts. Spend as much as you afford — an investment buy.
Plan the night before
Take five-minutes each evening to set out what you want to wear the next day. It makes for a less stressed mum and the kids will seem to behave better on the way to school — try it, it works.
